Sponsored by: SLA-CI Division and Aurora WDC

Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM EST

Free Webinar for SLA members and non-members. Space is limited.

Program Description: Learning to condense abstract ideas into concrete messages presentable in 400 seconds is a skill not everyone can master immediately. Pecha Kucha is an innovative presentation technique designed to overcome “death by PowerPoint” through placing a design constraint on presenters by limiting the presentation to 20 slides and only 20 seconds per slide. Oh, and they advance automatically. The CI Division of SLA, and sponsor Aurora WDC, is once again hosting a Pro/Am Pecha Kucha Tournament at our Open House at the SLA 2012 Annual Conference.

So, are you wondering what is Pecha Kucha (PK for short)? How can I learn about Pecha Kucha? How can I participate? How can I create a PK presentation? We have the remedy for those questions! Join us at 1 pm EST on Tuesday, Feb. 15th for a free “training webinar”. During the webinar you will hear a panel of experts as they discuss strategies on how to develop and create these presentations.

Panel includes: Dr. Craig Fleisher, Eric Garland, August Jackson, Craig McHenry and Zena Applebaum

Reserve your Webinar seat now at: https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/114576766

Take Aways:
-20+ free Web tools for Competitive Intelligence
-Best practices for searching the deep web
-Multiple examples of how these tools have been used in competitive intelligence projects
-Guidance as to how you should rank and prioritize open source intelligence sources

BONUS: All attendees will also receive a free copy of Sean and Scott’s book on gathering Internet based OSINT entitled: Go Beyond Google: Gathering Internet Intelligence – listed as must read for 2009-2010 by the Strategic and Competitive Intelligence Professionals society.

Dear Chapter Members:

I wanted to thank all of you for a great year that included outstanding programming from our program committee, community outreach projects, and several fun-filled social events. I can’t thank our board and chapter members enough for all of their hard work and dedication over the past year.

I would especially like to thank Tracey Stivers for all of her hard work on creating and updating the Chapter’s new website and Barbara Davis for all of her work on securing vendor sponsorship for our programs. Most recenlty, Barbara was able to secure LexisNexis as our corporate sponsor for the annual meeting! Sponsorship has become even more vital to our Chapter with the reduction of allotments and increasing expenses. If you have an interest in helping with sponsorship, please contact Barbara Davis (bjdavis81yahoocom) .

Our annual meeting was held at ZPlace in Montgomery on December 13th with approximately 25 librarians in attendance. The atmosphere was wonderful and it was great to see everyone before the holidays! Many thanks to Lexis for their sponsorship.

Barbara Silbersack (President) and Emily Klukken (President-Elect) already have some exciting programming ideas for our Chapter with a competitive intelligence program scheduled for February 9th (more details to follow shortly). In addition, 2012 is a milestone year marking the 85th anniversary of our Chapter. If you would like to be on the planning committe for programs or for celebrating our anniversary, please contact Emily Klukken (emilyklukkenyahoocom) .

Finally, I wanted to thank everyone for their support over the past year. It has been an honor and a privilege to work with all of you!

Sincerely,
Mary Lynn Wagner

For President-Elect

Emily Klukken moved to Loveland from Minneapolis with her husband last year for his job.She has been busy getting her family settled and working on her MLIS. Emily will graduate from University of Wisconsin in December 2011. She was a litigation paralegal for 11 years then transitioned to a law firm library at Faegre & Benson working as an electronic resources specialist. This included troubleshooting databases, maintaining access rights, as well as collection analysis and maintaining ILS integrity through catalog records review. Emily was heavily involved in writing and implementing cost recovery procedures. She is a member of the Volunteer Librarians Coalition (“VLC”). The VLC, a committee within the Minnesota Association of Law Librarians, is a group of law librarians (www.vlc.wikispaces.com) that assembled and maintain a digital library and provide legal research assistance to lawyers providing pro bono services for low-income individuals in Minneapolis. VLC has allowed Emily to continue her role despite her new location.

For Secretary

Holly Prochaska is our current Secretary. She has offered to stay on for another term. Holly is head of the Geology-Mathematics-Physics Library at the University of Cincinnati. In addition to her SLA membership, Holly is involced in the Ohio Preservation Council.
