Dear Chapter Members:

I wanted to thank all of you for a great year that included outstanding programming from our program committee, community outreach projects, and several fun-filled social events.   I can’t thank our board and chapter members enough for all of their hard work and dedication over the past year.

I would especially like to thank Tracey Stivers for all of her hard work on creating and updating the Chapter’s new website and Barbara Davis for all of her work on securing vendor sponsorship for our programs.  Most recenlty, Barbara was able to secure LexisNexis as our corporate sponsor for the annual meeting!  Sponsorship has become even more vital to our Chapter with the reduction of allotments and increasing expenses.  If you have an interest in helping with sponsorship, please contact Barbara Davis  (bjdavis81yahoocom)  .

Our annual meeting was held at ZPlace in Montgomery on December 13th with approximately 25 librarians in attendance.  The atmosphere was wonderful and it was great to see everyone before the holidays!  Many thanks to Lexis for their sponsorship. 

Barbara Silbersack (President) and Emily Klukken (President-Elect) already have some exciting programming ideas for our Chapter with a competitive intelligence program  scheduled for February 9th (more details to follow shortly).  In addition, 2012 is a milestone year marking the 85th anniversary of our Chapter.  If you would like to be on the planning committe for programs or for celebrating our anniversary, please contact Emily Klukken  (emilyklukkenyahoocom)  .

Finally, I wanted to thank everyone for their support over the past year.  It has been an honor and a privilege to work with all of you!

Dear Chapter Members:

As I write this, the last “official” weekend of summer is quickly approaching and I don’t know where the summer has gone!   It’s been a great year so far and I am very thankful for the opportunity to work with all the  wonderful  people in our membership.  I can’t thank the members of our board enough for all of their dedication and hard work over the course of the year.

One of the initiatives we have been working on is a new website for the chapter.  I am very pleased to announce that our Chapter is ready to release our new site sporting an updated look with a clean interface.   I would especially like to thank Tracey Stivers for all of her hard work converting our old website to the new interface.  The site is still a work in progress so please let me know if you have any suggestions for resources or content.  Please take a minute to visit our new site and bookmark it!   http://cincinnati.sla.org

Our second initiative for the year has been to implement a Business Partnership program to generate  funding for our programs and partner with businesses  within the library community.  Our new website contains all the sponsorship information.  Please take a look at this page and let me or Barbara Davis (Business Partnership Chair) know if you have any contacts for potential business partners.   Also, if you have an interest in helping out with this committee, please contact Barbara Davis  (bjdavis81yahoocom)  .

Finally, Barbara Silbersack and her Program Committee have been working very hard to line up a number of exciting programs.  We hope that you can make room on your calendar for these events which will round out our Chapter year.

Energize Your Sci/Tech Research!: Learn the Latest from an Expert at the Department of Energy

Tuesday, September 20, 9:00 – 12:00

We are partnering with the Southwest Ohio and Neighboring Libraries (SWON) for this 3-hour workshop which will familiarize participants with the scientific and technical information found in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) resources. These include Information Bridge, Energy Citations Database, ScienceCinema, DOE Data Explorer and more. Wifi will be available for your enhanced experience. This is an advanced research session.

5th Annual Books by the Banks: Cincinnati USA Book Festival

Saturday, October 22,  10:00 – 4:00

Held at the Duke Energy Center in downtown Cincinnati, this event attracts a lot of attention and brings in a diverse group of authors. Organized by the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County, University of Cincinnati Libraries, The Mercantile Library, and Joseph-Beth Booksellers, with support from Northern Kentucky Univeristy and Clermont County Public Library.

Technology Blitz

Mid-November

We are in the planning stages for this event. We hope to feature mobile technologies and how they are used by librarians and/or in libraries. Be it tablets, smartphones or QR codes, new technologies are enabling us to get more info while on the go. Join us as we invite both early adopters and potential new users to discuss the pros, cons and uses of mobile tech in our libraries.
